 Magnitude 5.5 earthquake strikes eastern Egypt A magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook eastern Egypt early Monday, prompting authorities to activate response plans, although there were no immediate requests for emergency help. The tremors were felt across a wide area, waking residents across Cairo and reaching as far as El-Arish near Egypt's border with the Gaza Strip. The quake struck about 40 kilometres north of the city of Suez at 3:00 am (0000 GMT), according to Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, which revised an earlier estimate of 5.2.

       1. Troops of Headquarters Command Army Records in conjunction with those on operation TOTAL FREEDOM while on clearance operation at Kpanche, Bereko and Ozugbe villages Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State, encountered bandits responsible for terrorizing the areas.
2. Six of the suspected bandits were neutralized during the encounter while others fled following the superior fire power of the troops.
3. Items recovered include:
a. Two AK 47 rifles with five magazines.
b. 25 rounds of.ammunition.
c. One G3 rifle with one magazine.
d. 188 rounds of ammunition.
e. Two locally made guns.
4. The fleeing residents have been reassured of their safety and advised them not to panic but report any suspicious activities or movements to the law enforcement agents.
