 Morocco places provinces on highest alert as wildfire spreads Morocco has placed nine provinces at the highest wildfire alert level as blazes continued to intensify over the past week, with satellite data showing that more than 4,100 hectares (10,131 acres) have burned since the start of the year. Data from the European Commission-backed Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS) showed that about 855 hectares (2,112 acres) burned over the past week, marking an increase from the previous week, Anadolu Agency reported. The system also detected 1,006 thermal anomalies across Morocco between Jan. 1 and Aug. 2, including 59 over the past week. Thermal anomalies are satellite-detected hotspots and do not necessarily represent separate wildfires, as the same fire may be detected more than once. On Friday, Morocco’s National Agency for Water and Forests issued red-level wildfire warnings for nine provinces in the country’s north and east, indicating an extreme risk of forest fires. POLICE ARREST A MAN FOR ASSAULTING A WOMAN WITH TIMBER.



Police officers who were patrolling the Badili area on Monday responded quickly and  saved a woman's life, when she was savagely beaten by a man.


Members of the Constabulary who attended this crime said the victim from Goilala and the assailant from Western Highlands Province argued over a market spot, before the man struck the woman with a piece of timber.


They were selling their bettlelnut at the location but fled when the NCDC Urban Safety Units arrived.


When the NCDC officers left, they returned and began arguing over a market space.


The man allegedly picked up a piece of timer and struck the woman on her back and head.


The victim fell to the ground and was bleeding profusely,  when the police arrived.


The victim who sustained serious injuries was taken to the Port Moresby General Hospital and the suspect was arrested and detained.


The suspect was taken to Boroko police station  charged with assault and will appear in court.


Infuriated by this cowardly attack, the relatives of the victim mobilised and were going to attack relatives of the suspect but a clash was averted because of the police presence.


The woman is recovering in hospital but Badili Police and Sector Patrol Fox 100 Units have now increased their patrols along 2 Mile Hill,.Badili and Koki areas, in case of a revenge attack which may escalate into another ethnic clash.
