SENATE ADJOURNS EMERGENCY PLENARY ON STATE POLICE OVER REP’S DEATH. The Senate today suspended consideration of the highly anticipated State Police Bill and all other legislative business at its emergency plenary session to honour the memory of Hon. Yaya Tongo, a member of the House of Representatives, whose death cast a sombre mood over the National Assembly. The upper chamber had reconvened from recess amid expectations that lawmakers would accelerate action on the proposed constitutional amendment seeking to establish state police across the federation, a measure widely seen as a major step in the ongoing effort to reform Nigeria’s security architecture. However, proceedings were cut short after Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the death of Tongo, who represented the Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State in the House of Representatives. Hon. Tongo passed away at Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja on June 12, 2026, following a brief illness. His death triggered a...

‘My 20-year journey cannot be complete without Don Jazzy’ — D’Banj

Nigerian ace music star, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, better known by his stage name D’Banj, says his 20-year-long music career is possible courtesy of former partner and music producer, Michael Ajereh, aka Don Jazzy.

D’Banj acknowledged the Mo’ Hits Records co-founder in a series of posts via his Instagram handle on Thursday.

He described the two decades as years characterised by brotherhood, entertainment and unwavering support.

In March 2012, Don Jazzy confirmed using his Twitter account, now X, to announce that D’Banj had left the group.

The ace musician who would clock 42 on Sunday’s reason for leaving was cited as a difference in interests.

Don Jazzy went on to establish another record label known as Mavin Records.

One of his posts read, “My 20 year journey cannot be complete without It’s #donjazzy again!

“Giving him the invite to my anniversary dinner was a moment filled with nostalgia. As we both celebrate 20 years in the industry, I’m reminded of the countless memories and milestones we’ve shared together.

“Here’s to two decades of brotherhood, entertainment, and unwavering support. Love you always, Brother! OooSHeeeee.”

In a show of “brotherly love”, Don Jazzy responded to the post saying, “Still finding it hard to believe it’s been 20 years bro.

“Feels like yesterday. Thank you for everything. Love you brotherLee . More blessings.”

Meanwhile, D’Banj announced a free show to mark the anniversary.

“Babylets, Kokolets, Mamalets, and Koko Masters, all roads lead to the New Afrika Shrine on June 11th!

“It’s a FREE concert in celebration of my 20 years on stage for all of you who have stuck with the Koko Master since ‘04 till date! Let’s turn up the energy, Lagos!

“The street is where it all started, and we’re taking it back to where it all began đź’Ą

“Let me hear you say yeahhhh yeahhh.”

Last month, the duo had seemingly reconciled after 12 years apart.

In a viral video, the two were seen hugging each other and sharing pleasantries.

The video was a promotional video for the release of D’Banj’s new single, ‘Since 04,’ whose lyrics suggest him paying tribute to the now defunct Mo Hit Records, to which he belonged and was a major stakeholder alongside Don Jazzy.
