 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. MAIRIGA APPOINTED EXECUTIVE SECRETARY, FGSHLB
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr. Ibrahim Abdu Mairiga as the Executive Secretary, Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board (FGSHLB) with effect from 24th July, 2020 for a term of Four (4) Years in the first instance.
The letter conveying the approval was signed by The Head of Service of the Federation (HOS), Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan. She stated that the new appointment calls for dedication, hard work and commitment for the realization of the mandate of the Board. She therefore advised Mr. Mairiga to bring his wealth of experience and knowledge to bear on the task ahead.
Mr. Ibrahim Abdu Mairiga was born on the 4th of December, 1960 in Gombe, Gombe State, Nigeria. He holds a Masters of Arts (History) from the University of Maiduguri and Bachelor of Arts (History) from Bayero University, Kano State. He has attended many professional courses both within and outside Nigeria.
Mr. Mairiga was the Director, Employment Mobility and Director Overseeing the Office of Permanent Secretary, Career Management in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) before his current appointment. He is expected to assume duties in the Board immediately.
