 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. SUPREME COURT VERDICT: GOV AKEREDOLU HAILS JUDICIARY, DEDICATES VICTORY TO GOD.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has hailed the decision of the Supreme Court which upheld his victory at the October 10, 2020 governorship election in the state. 


The Supreme Court, in a majority judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, four of the seven-member panel dismissed the appeal by Eyitayo Jegede and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the grounds that it was incompetent.


Governor Akeredolu hailed the court, explaining that from the Tribunal to the Supreme Court, twelve judges have ruled in his favor and three against him. 


The Governor particularly thanked the Judiciary for not yielding to any influence, adding that the glory of the election petition success is to God. 


He also appreciated his legal team and those of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the APC. 


He said: "I have every reason to thank God and appreciate the judiciary for not yielding  to any influence. We can still be proud of our judiciary. The glory of this election petition success is to God Almighty. 


“I want to thank the legal team that has represented us. My team, led by Chief Akin Olujimi and other wonderful lawyers for their wonderful work. We thank the INEC team, Charles Edosanwa, SAN; APC team, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, Sola Oke and other eminent lawyers."


The Governor again called on Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, to come and join hands with him for the development of the state. 


He said with the judgement of the apex court, the legal tussle has been laid to rest, stressing that it is now time to work more for the people.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
