  President Bola Tinubu has identified the creative economy as a pivotal element of his administration’s economic diversification agenda, reaffirming his commitment to positioning Nigeria’s creative sector as a driving force for global influence. The President stated this at the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja. President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said the carnival reaffirms the essence of who Nigerians are—”a people of culture, a people of art, a people of colour, and a people of shared values”. Former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained his reasons for visiting former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, saying, he went to receive his blessings.

Tinubu stated this after a closed-door meeting with the elder statesman in his Hilltop country home in Minna, Niger State.

He stated, “if you restrict my visit to this house that is it. Generally, I came to Niger State to commiserate with the Governor and the people of Niger State. And so, I can’t stop by without paying a courtesy call to the enigma General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Retired”.

On whether he got his blessings, the presidential candidate replied, ” he gave me his prayers. You want to know the outcome of the consultation? We are running a democracy”.

Speaking on his ambition, he stated,” I took my decision voluntarily and I am running for the Presidency of the country, we are running a democracy, thank you very much and God bless you”.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
