 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  FG Repatriates 190 Nigerians From UAE Day After Announcing Visa Ban Lift


The Federal Government has repatriated 190 Nigerians from the United Arab Emirates.


In a statement signed by Zonal Director of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North Central, Bashir Idris Garga,the returnees were received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Tuesday morning by a combined team of government officials led by NEMA.


He said the returnees were profiled and documented by the relevant agencies and sensitized to behave with decorum and responsibility on their return to Nigeria.


This is coming barely 24 hours after the federal government said it had reached an agreement with the UAE on the issue of the visa ban imposed on Nigeria two years ago.


The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Monday announced the agreement while addressing State House reporters at the Presidential Villa, Abuja


“You are aware that Nigeria has been discussing with the United Arab Emirates the issue of visas for Nigerian passport holders going to the United Arab Emirates.


“Today, an agreement has been reached on that, and effective today, July 15th, Nigerian passport holders are able to obtain visas to go to the United Arab Emirates.“Details of that will be provided to you later today when we put out a statement. But I can tell you that the agreement has been reached and effective from today, Nigerian passport holders intending to travel to the UAE are able to do so,” he had said.


However, there has not been any official communication yet from the UAE authorities on the agreement.
