Kano Court Jails Two TikTokers Over Vulgar Social Media Posts

A Kano Magistrate Court has sentenced two TikTok users, Ahmad Isa and Maryam Musa, to one year in prison for posting vulgar content on social media.

The duo was arrested by the Kano State Censorship Board for allegedly violating the state's religious and moral standards.

During their arraignment, state counsel Barr. Garzali Maigari charged them with criminal conspiracy and the dissemination of illicit content.

After pleading guilty, the court handed each of them a one-year prison sentence with an option to pay a fine of N100,000. Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan also cautioned them to maintain good behavior.

This case adds to a growing list of social media-related arrests in Kano. In February 2024, the Hisbah Board detained TikToker Murja Kunya over alleged immoral activities, while in June 2024, another TikTok influencer, G-Fresh al-Amin, was arrested for making inappropriate online remarks.
