Peter Obi's Court Case In Anambra Is Why They Don't Have Elections The Same Time With Others- Reno Omokri Reno Omokri, former presidential spokesperson, has explained how legal battles involving governors have led to what he described as “optical elections” in some Nigerian states. Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Omokri noted that there have been cases where governors were impeached, or declared losers in elections, only to later reclaim their mandates through the courts. He explained that in such situations, when the governors eventually won their cases, they argued that the time spent in court should not be counted against their four-year tenure. Courts sometimes ruled in their favor, altering the election calendar for those states. Citing an example, Omokri pointed to Peter Obi in Anambra State. He recalled that Obi’s court victory is the reason elections in Anambra no longer hold at the same time as in other states, making them “optical elections.” In Reno Omokri...

Treat bandits like Niger Delta militants – Gumi backs dialogue option Prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has warned against jeopardising ongoing peace agreements between communities in Katsina State and leaders of bandit groups. Gumi, a long-time advocate of dialogue as a pathway to ending banditry, restated his position following recent peace talks in Matazu, Faskari, and Sabuwa local government areas, where several wanted bandit kingpins were reportedly present. In a post on his Facebook page on Saturday, he urged both government and security agencies to protect the fragile truce, advising that armed groups be treated with the same reintegration approach once adopted for Niger Delta militants. “Alhamdulillah. News has come that today, Sabuwa Local Government has also held a peace settlement with the bandits in the forests to establish peace throughout the entire local government area… May the security agencies avoid destroying this peace agreement but instead teach the...

I have decided to dedicate the day to God for all His blessings in my life and to have a quiet birthday. “I wish to appeal to those who would like to send a birthday card, cakes, flowers, greetings in the newspapers, or gifts. A fragile power-sharing deal between President Salva Kiir and his long-time rival, Riek Machar, has been unravelling for months, with risks of returning the young nation to a civil war that left 400,000 dead in the 2010s. Machar was this month charged with murder, treason and crimes against humanity and suspended as first vice president in the unity government, having already spent months under house arrest.  ANAMBRA SECURITY ADVISORY: IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NOT AN EXCUSE AND TRIAL BY ORDEAL REMAINS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE The Anambra State Police Command wishes to remind members of the public, especially Ndi Anambra that ignorance of the law is not an excuse to evade justice. While the Command respects cultural values and traditional beliefs, it strongly warns against engaging in unlawful practices, particularly trial by ordeal. This practice, which forces an accused person to undergo painful or dangerous tests to “prove” innocence or guilt, is illegal, inhuman, criminal, and punishable under Nigerian Law. Section 207 of the Criminal Code Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, expressly prohibits trial by ordeal. It provides that any person who directs, takes part in, or submits another person to trial by ordeal is guilty of a felony and liable to imprisonment. Consequently, the Police Command emphasizes that justice must be sought and obtained only through legal courts of competent juri...
