The Lagos State Anti-Crime Team, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has expanded its security patrol and operations across the metropolis with the foiling of seven armed robbery attacks and rescue of 19 victims in different parts of the State.
The Commander, RRS, DCP Olatunji Disu, who disclosed this in the team's report for the month of February 2020, said the development and continuous efforts of the officers and men of the anti-crime squad have led to a reduction in armed robbery rate within Lagos in the past few months.
DCP Disu stated that the continued collaborations of the squad with other security agencies to enforce law and order in every nook and cranny of the metropolis has resulted in improved security and safety of lives and property.
He explained that such partnership aided the foiling of an armed attack by a gang of robbers on residents of Balogun Area of Agric, Ikorodu and Folorusho Street, Ogba, Aguda on 11th and 12th of February, 2020, respectively, stressing that motorised patrol and monitoring had since been intensified in those areas.
According to him, “On 11th of February, 2020, there was a distress call from the Monitoring Team Six notifying the Command about a robbery operation at Balogun Area of Agric in Ikorodu. In a swift response, RRS operatives and other law enforcement agents were dispatched to the scene to foil the attack as the robbers took to their heels”.
“On 12th of February, 2020, another distress call from Monitoring Team 27 about a robbery incident on Folorunsho Street, Ogba, Aguda was received. The RRS patrol vehicle swiftly responded to foil the attack by the armed robbers who then took to their heels”, he added.
On other security activities performed by the outfit in the month of February, 2020, the Commander stated that the squad had also participated actively in the rescue of 15 fire and 11 accident victims, as well as preventing public disturbances in the month under review.
He averred that as part of initiatives to enhance its operations in Lagos, all RRS operatives have been directed to ensure timely response to all distress calls received on the State's toll-free lines 112 and 767.
Disu attributed the achievements and success of the squad in the State to the continued support and encouragement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administrationsin Lagos.
