 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. GOVERNOR ABDULLAHI SULE CHARGES PEOPLE OF UDEGE CHIEFDOM TO FISH OUT CRIMINALS FROM AMONGST THEM
“We believe there are criminal elements amongst the people of this area and we must fish them out”
This is the charge from Governor Abdullahi Sule to key stakeholders when he paid a fact finding visit to the palace of the Osu Ajiri, Halilu Bala Usman the traditional ruler of Udege Chiefdom of Nasarawa State on Sunday.
The visit follows the killing of Mr. Amos Ewa Obere, the monarch of Odu in Nasarawa Local Government Area.
Governor Sule who restates that security of lives of the citizens is a priority of his administration insists
criminals must not be allowed to truncate the peace and economic activities in our communities.
He expresses worry at the resurgence of insecurity in the area that was peaceful only months ago. He admonished youths in the area to shun crime.
The Osu Ajiri on his part commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for beefing up security in the area as well as the on going construction of mararaba Udege - Udege Mbeki road.
He however wants the speedy appointment of more district heads in the area for ease of administration and improved security.
Governor Sule accompanied by former governor and Senator representing the area Abdullahi Adamu and other government officials later paid a condolence visit to the palace of the late traditional ruler of Odu.
