 Obafemi Hamzat laments high electricity tariff, says his bill rose by 974% in a month Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos state, says his electricity bill inexplicably skyrocketed from N2.7 million in March to N29 million in April. Hamzat said the electricity distribution company (DisCo) also frustrated his efforts to utilise the prepaid meter he procured. Punch reports that the deputy governor spoke on Monday during a roundtable discussion between the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Lagos state government in Victoria Island. Both parties were billed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the electrification of rural communities in Lagos. Hamzat, who represented Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, at the event, decried what he called “crazy bills” from DisCos. “People that are trying to survive, and the common denominator for them is power. THE DEATH OF ADETOUN ADEDIRAN CAME TO ME AS A RUDE SHOCK- GBAJABIAMILA.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

The death of Hon. Adetoun Adediran came to me as a rude shock. She was my political associate, the first elected female Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LSHA 1999-2003); a one time All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State and Lagos Central Woman Leader and until her death, a Governing Board Member of Michael Otedola College of Education (MOCPED), Epe, Lagos State and a Senior Legislative Adviser in the office of the Speaker, House of Representatives. 


Her death came as a shock because we were together a few days ago during the commissioning of projects in Surulere 1 Federal Constituency, where she gave a supporting hand during the ceremony. 


Her death would create a void in the party as she was a very committed party woman, her wise counsel and active participation in party activities would be greatly missed.


I pray for the repose of her soul. I encourage her family, associates, Surulere Constituents, APC and Lagos State Government to take solace in the knowledge that she lived a fulfilled and impactful life before her demise.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
