 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter. Anambra born professor Okeke sets word record:Gets elevated at Oxford

Anambra born Chike Okeke -Agulu,a leading academic in the United States, of Princeton University, has  assumed duties as distinguished Professor at Oxford University London.


Professor Okeke-Agulu hails from Umuoji in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.


Oxford University,one of the oldest and prestigious educational institutions in the world, established in 1096 by the single gesture has again placed Anambra State and indeed Nigeria on the global academic reckoning.


This hardwork, diligence and perseverance leading to this global elevation underscores  the present administration of Governor Chukwuma  Soludo's positive disposition to human resources development, projection of the ndi Anambra spirit of hardwork, professionalism and excellence anywhere in the global space.


Professor Okeke-Agulu's assumption of duties at the most respected university in the world is therefore an honour well deserved to himself, the African Continent, Nigeria and Anambra State in particular. 


The government and people of Anambra State are  proud of this honour

 an attestation to the fact that hard work pays .
