 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. WOMEN AFFAIRS COMMISSIONER, OBINABO, SEALS FIAT MISSIONARIES COMMUNITY CHILDREN'S HOME IN NKWELLE

Anambra State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon. Ify. Obinabo has sealed off Fiat Missionaries Community Children's Home Nkwelle for not complying with the provisions of the law in running an orphanage home.


This she did after a tip off from a whistle blower notifying the ministry that the operator of the home has opened a new branch without due registration and authorization 


On getting to Fiat Missionaries Community Children's Home Nkwelle, the women and social welfare boss also discovered that the mode of operations in the home was substandard.


Speaking immediately after sealing the home, Hon. Obinabo through her Senior Social Welfare Officer, Mr Obiora Onunkwo stated that more homes will be closed in coming months if community home operators fail to comply with the provisions of the law in running orphanage homes. 


He noted that the aim is to send a strong warning to defaulters to desist forthwith or face the consequences of their actions. 


The sealed home is a branch of Fiat Missionaries Community Children's Home Onitsha.


Mr. Ilo Favour Udochukwu, Executive Assistant to Mr. Governor on Women and Social Welfare; Mr. Chukwuma and some security operatives were among the team that sealed off the home.
