 Russia launches massive drone and missile barrage on Ukraine, killing at least 18 civilians and striking Kyiv and multiple cities  Russia carried out a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine, launching hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles that killed at least 18 civilians and wounded more than 100 others across multiple cities, officials said Tuesday. The strikes hit Kyiv, Dnipro and other regions, with emergency crews working through destroyed residential buildings where some victims were trapped under rubble. In Dnipro, rescuers recovered the bodies of a 3-year-old child and a mother and her 8-year-old son, while officials reported 12 deaths in the city and six in Kyiv. The bombardment stretched from night into daylight, with explosions reported across wide areas of the country. Anxiety As Rivers CP Goes After Erring Officers

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, has matched his words with action, following the arrest of policemen caught assaulting a man in a viral video trending on social media.

The incident, as captured in the video happened on Saturday, infront of Crunches eatery, Oyigbo, where about five policemen where filmed dragging and brutalizing a young man who should be in his early thirties.

This is happening few days after Nwonyi charged the CP Monitoring Unit to monitor activities of police officers in the command, warning that any officer found wanting would be dealt with in accordance with the extant law of the Nigeria Police

In a release made available to TNN by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the CP vehemently condemned the policemen for assaulting and brutalizing the man.

He affirmed that the policemen in the video have been identified and arrested and are currently at the Command undergoing trial for what he described as their unprofessional act.

Nwonyi added that this will serve as deterrent to other police personnel.

He appealed to the victim to, “come forward to the Public Relations Department, Rivers State Police Command to give his own statement so as to aid conclusion of the investigations and his identity will be protected.”

The commissioner of Police further assured members of the public, that the police operatives will be investigated in line with extant rules underlying the conduct of police personnel and appropriate sanctions meted accordingly.

Nwonyi also reiterated the command’s commitment to promoting the rule of law.
