Freddie Jackson, R&B Legend Behind “You Are My Lady” and “Rock Me Tonight,” Dies at 70 R&B has lost one of its most unmistakable voices. Freddie Jackson, the singer whose smooth delivery helped define romantic R&B during the 1980s and gave generations of listeners songs including “You Are My Lady,” “Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake)” and “Have You Ever Loved Somebody,” has died. He was 70. Jackson’s death was announced Tuesday, October 6, through his verified Instagram account. According to the memorial shared by his family and team, the singer died Monday night, October 5. The announcement did not disclose a cause of death. “It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Freddie Jackson,” the statement read, describing the singer as a generous soul who loved his fans, family, friends and music. The Lord Mayor of Leeds, United Kingdom, and Gimbiyan Jaba, Abigail Marshall Katung, together with her husband, the Lord Mayor Consort, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, were recently honoured with a royal invitation to attend a Garden Party hosted by His Majesty King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.


The prestigious event, held on Tuesday, 20th May, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m., brought together distinguished guests from across the United Kingdom, in celebration of exceptional contributions to public service, community development, and national unity.


The Lord Mayor and her husband joined many inspiring leaders and individuals at The King’s Garden Party, an esteemed tradition that underscores the monarchy’s recognition of civic responsibility and community engagement.


The event also served as a platform for meaningful dialogue and the exchange of ideas. 


Her Worship and Senator Katung used the occasion to spotlight the need for collaboration in fostering development in Nigeria, particularly in the Southern Kaduna region.
