 NUT Protest : Wike Warns Against Politicising Insecurity The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned against politicising insecurity amid protests by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, FCT wing, over the killing and abduction of school staff and children in Oyo State. Teachers stormed the FCTA Secretariat in Abuja to condemn the killing of Michael Oyedokun and to demand the release of abducted pupils and teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area. The FCT minister addressed the protesters on Tuesday, saying the federal government is on its toes working to secure the rescue of the schoolchildren and their teachers. Wike urged protesters to avoid turning the tragedy into a political issue and to give security efforts time to produce results.  Miss World Meets Her Excellency the President of Tanzania in Zanzibar


On July 20th, 2025, in the serene coastal village of Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, warmly received a delegation from Miss World Limited, led by its Chair and CEO Julia Morley.


The meeting brought together some of the most inspiring young women of this generation, including the reigning Miss World, Opal Suchata Chuangsri @suchaaata from Thailand, and Miss World Africa and 1st Runner-up, Hasset Dereje @hasset_dereje from Ethiopia. They were joined by ministers from various sectors, including Culture, Sports, Natural Resources, and Tourism.


During the private discussion, Opal and Hasset had the opportunity to personally share the heart of the Miss World platform: their Beauty With a Purpose projects. Opal spoke about her work in breast cancer prevention and awareness in Thailand, while Hasset highlighted her mission to empower young women through skills training and professional development in Ethiopia. The President was visibly impressed by the depth, vision, and impact of both initiatives.


Opal and Hasset also shared their excitement and positive impressions on Tanzania after nearly a week exploring this incredible nation.


Following the discussion, the President posed for official photographs with the two titleholders, presented them with local products, such as Zanzibar’s famous spices, marking a memorable moment in the historic partnership between Miss World and the people of Tanzania.


“The first woman president of Tanzania inspires me. What a thoughtful, intelligent, and caring woman”, said Opal after the meeting. Hasset added: “On top of all that, she has a great sense of humor. I really like her!”.
