In a calculated response to the dehumanizing attack on a female National Youth Corps Member, Miss Jennifer Elohor in Oba by some sacked "Agunaechemba' security operatives, the deputy state Chairman, traditional rulers council and Chairman, Anambra North Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Benjamin Okeji has condemned the act as an assault on womanhood and civility.
In a press statement in Awka on the brazen show of rascality and unprofessionalism by the deposed operatives,Igwe Okeji doubling as the traditional ruler of Omasi, felt devastated that in the 21st century and in a state adjudged as the light of the nation, people could descend so low to exhibit such act of barbarism and uncouth behavior.
The royal father holding the office of the State Chairman Southern Governor's Forum, affirmed that his office cannot stand by and watch such display of animalistic behavior go unpunished.
Beyond the sacking of the operatives,he called for their prosecution and adequate chastisement to serve as a deterrent to their likes in the society.
Igwe Okeji commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo, his wife Dr Nonye Soludo, the state Police Command, the state Commissioner for Information, Dr.Law Me for,and other well meaning Nigerians for condemning the dastardly act and for rising to the occasion to mitigate the escalation of the ripple effects being created by the unfortunate incident.
Rather than disband the "Agunaechemba' team as some people clamour for, the royal father advocated the mandatory re-training of the operatives to sustain some of the achievements they have recorded since their inauguration.
He saluted the courage of the"Agunaechemba' top hierarchy in publicly apologizing to the victim.
Furthermore, the traditional ruler pointed out that on the point of law, human dignity should be applied in the arrest and prosecution of offenders.
