 Nigeria's Defence Minister Summons Service Chiefs Amid Surge in Attacks on Military Bases Nigeria's Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has urgently summoned the nation's top military leaders to a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja. The session addresses the escalating attacks targeting military installations, particularly in the North East region. The meeting includes key figures such as: - Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede - Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu - Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke - Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass - Representatives from the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) The summons comes in response to recent deadly assaults by terrorists on military bases in the North East.  IGWE OKPUNO CELEBRATES IRI JI 2025 — A FESTIVAL OF HERITAGE, UNITY & GRATITUDE


The ancient town of Okpuno came alive in a spectacular display of culture and tradition as His Royal Majesty, Engr. S.I. Okafor (Igwe Ogene of Okpuno), hosted the 2025 New Yam Festival (Iri Ji) at the Igwe’s Palace. 


The event was a colorful celebration of harvest, heritage, and harmony, drawing together cabinet members, traditional chiefs, Nze na Ozo, and proud indigenes of Okpuno.


The festival featured vibrant performances from dance troupes, masquerade displays, and jubilant youth showcases — all reflecting the deep cultural roots and communal pride of the people.


Joining in the festivities was the Prince of Okpuno Kingdom and Mayor of Awka-South, Prince Chinedu Okafor (Ozor Ebubechukwuzo Na'Okpuno), whose presence was met with warmth and admiration. Youths rallied around the Mayor, celebrating his strong bond with the people and his unwavering commitment to grassroots leadership. The Awka-South APGA team and Council members stood proudly beside their principal, sharing in the joy of the occasion.


The festival also welcomed a host of distinguished dignitaries, including:  

Igwe Nibo, HRM Eze Ugonwanne Dr M.C Ngene JP KSQ (Ezeike), lgwe Nise HRM Igwe R.N Iloh (ISE NISE), Igwe Umuawulu HRM Igwe Dr. Joel M. Egwuonwu, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Okoye Puis Chukwuma , MD Ocha Brigade, Engr. Celestine Anere, MD ACTDA, Hon. Ossy Onuko Ifeigbo, MD ICT, Mr. Fred Agbata, Chief Hon. Dr. Azubuike Augustine Ekweozor (Ide Umuawulu), Amb. Jude Agumadu (BabyAwka), Ozo Igwedimma Nwafor, Deputy Mayor, Hon. Paul Ifeme, Lady Felicia Okika and many others who joined HRM Igwe Okafor and Mayor Okafor in celebrating the rich legacy of Okpuno.
