Wike summons emergency meeting as insecurity worsens in FCT The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has summoned an emergency security meeting amid the heightened insecurity currently bedevilling the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. At the emergency meeting, the FCT minister assured residents of their safety. He said the government was working to support security agents with all they need to tackle insecurity. Among those in attendance are heads of security agencies in the FCT, top officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), council chairmen as well as traditional rulers. Wike warned the area council chairmen to be alive to their responsibility at the local level. In the past few weeks, bandits have ravaged some parts of the FCT, abducting residents from their homes. Man delivering ransom to bandits in Kaduna kidnapped A retired school principal who volunteered to deliver ransom to kidnappers to secure the freedom of a victim in Birnin Gwari LG, Kaduna State, has been held hostage. Former federal lawmaker, who represented the Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the red chamber, Senator Shehu Sani, made this known in a post on his verified X handle on Tuesday. According to him, the man whose name was not revealed has been in captivity for at least three days. The post reads, “A retired School principal who volunteered to deliver ransom to kidnappers in order to secure the release of a victim has also been held by the kidnappers in Birnin Gwari LG, Kaduna state. “He has been in captivity for three days now; the abductors made calls to his family for his ransom”.  Kaduna is one of the states in the North West where the daredevil bandits have been wreaking havoc in the past years.

Yesterday, January 15th 2024, Hoodlums, not more than fifty youths connived with petty traders to attack  ACTDA officials on major enforcement exercise around the Awka Capital City. It was observed that the hoodlums who were predominantly young men in their late twenties and thirties were seen carrying stones, bottles and sticks which they vextedly used to attack and threw at both the agency officials and men of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corp who were attached to agency officials to ensure law and order and a smooth and peaceful enforcement exercise. Police promises safe return of kidnapped sisters Nigerian Police has promised to ensure the safe return of six sisters who were kidnapped at their home located in the Bwari area council of the FCT. Nigerians Urged To Embrace Education Nigerians have been urged  to embrace education no matter their age. The  Principal, Junior section, Universal Basic Education ( UBE)  Cherubim and Seraphim College, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin, Mrs  Christianah  Ogunbiyi made the call while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin. She said her dressing in complete school Uniform was meant to encourage old and young to return to school. Mrs Ogunbiyi said the idea would enable students inculcate the habit of dressing properly and avoid indecent dressing. The Principal explained that her dressing in school uniform is an indication that  no one is too old to learn. Mrs Ogunbiyi  also admonished other teachers to emulate the habit of descent dressing. FG to deepen collaboration in solid mineral development As the globe shifts from fossil fuels to cleaner energy, the US government seeks to expand partnership with states in the development of the solid minerals and metals sector. This was declared by Dr. Mary Ogbe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministries of Solid Minerals Development and Steel Development, at the 5th National Council on Mining and Mineral Resources Development in Ilorin, Kwara State.
