 Africa’s future lies within the continent, says Adesina President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, on Friday advocated for youth investment in Nigeria’s Agri-business. Adesina championed the advocacy in his keynote address at the Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa Primates and Wives’ Retreat in Abuja. He spoke on the topic “Food Security and Financial Sustainability in Africa: The Role of the Church”. Adesina underscored the vital role of youth in revolutionising Nigeria’s agricultural sector and highlighted the success stories of some young entrepreneurs. The former Minister of Agriculture recounted his symbolic decision to wear a bowtie during his tenure as Minister of Agriculture to make the sector more appealing to young Nigerians. Tukur Buratai, has urged those wishing Nigeria disintegrate to perish the thought, predicting that the country would continue to remain a united nation. Buratai spoke in Kuta, Osun State on Sunday at the 60th birthday celebration of Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude.  Labour suspends planned strike in Abia The Organised Labour in Abia State, on Sunday, suspended its seven-day strike ultimatum it issued to the state government, scheduled to begin today (Monday). The labour union had threatened a strike over the government’s inability to sit for a dialogue over the payment of the expired N30,000 minimum wage and the N35,000 palliative wage award, as approved by the Federal Government. Following the ultimatum, Governor Alex Otti met with the members of the organised labour in the state and directed the state Accountant General to liaise with the union within the next week, to reconcile the actual amount that the least paid worker in the state should receive as minimum wage, among other issues. The state NLC Chairman, Comrade Ogbonnaya Okoro, alleged that the government was currently paying N20,100 while workers in the local governments received N18,000 as minimum wage.  Tension In Rivers As 7-Day Budget Ultimatum Reaches Deadline Uncertainty has once again gripped the political landscape in Rivers State, as the 7-day ultimatum by the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resubmit the 2024 budget reaches its deadline this week. The ultimatum, issued on July 8, will expire today if weekends are counted, or on Wednesday if they are excluded. The Assembly’s order came after a motion by Dumle Maol, the Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary. Maol, who is also the Deputy Speaker of the Pro-Nyesom Wike Assembly, urged the House to formally notify the governor to present the budget in light of a recent court ruling, which they believe affirmed their membership and validated Amaewhule’s leadership.  Chairman market association fumigates market against cholera, other diseases By Juliana Nwachukwu In his bid to cue into the healthy living programme of the Anambra State Government's initiatives, the chairman of New Auto Spare Parts Market, Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, Chief Stephen Ofoleh, has fumigated the market against outbreak of cholera and other diseases.
