 Nigeria Calls for Stronger AU Peace and Security Architecture Nigeria has called for urgent reforms to strengthen the African Union Peace and Security Architecture, including improved early warning systems, sustainable financing and stronger coordination among continental and regional bodies. The statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu notes that the forum was an important step towards implementing the African Union Assembly’s Decision 967 of February 2026, which requested concrete recommendations on strengthening the continent’s peace and security architecture by January 2027.  Goodwill Akpabio returns to Nigeria, says he went to London for vacation and not for health issues. Senate President Godswill Akpabio has returned to Nigeria after a short vacation in London, dispelling widespread rumours about his health. Akpabio arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 4am on Monday and was received by senators, aides and supporters at the presidential wing. His absence after attending the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 29 to 31, had sparked speculation on social media that he was critically ill and hospitalised. Speaking with journalists on arrival, Akpabio dismissed the rumours, describing them as baseless. "There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,”

 Ukachukwu is a serial loser, he has never won any election since 2003 that he has been contest for positions. The Governor of Anambra state, governor Chukwuma Soludo, mocked the APC Governorship candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, over his unfortunate political career.  Ukachukwu had boasted that APC will use the bye-Election to show APGA that the November 8 Election will be in favor of APC, but unfortunately APGA won the bye-Election Governor Soludo reacted replied Ukachukwu after the bye election, stating that:  “Nicholas Ukachukwu, the APC governorship candidate for November 8, lost the Anambra South senatorial district bye-election to APGA in his polling unit, his community Osumenyi, and his Nnewi South LG.  YPP Chairman Amakiri speaks Against Divided Loyalty After By-Elections The National Chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Bishop Amakiri, has issued a stern warning to members who are allegedly maintaining dual loyalties with other political parties, particularly the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Amakiri reacted to the outcome of the recent by-elections and re-runs conducted in 13 states by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In his remarks, the YPP leader stressed that the party will not tolerate divided loyalty among its members. “Those who claim to be in YPP and have one leg in YPP and the other in APGA, we will rather show them the way to leave,” he said.

 Suicide Attempt Foiled as 25-Year-Old Rescued from River Niger A major tragedy was averted in Onitsha, Anambra State, at the weekend after a 25-year-old man, Henry Okoroagwu, jumped into the River Niger. Okoroagwu, an indigene of Amasiri in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, reportedly climbed the railings of the Niger Bridge in broad daylight and plunged into the river out of frustration. He was swiftly rescued by local boat operators and officials of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) following an alarm raised by passersby. Confirming the incident, NIWA’s Unit Head of Marine, Engineer Omishola, said the agency’s rapid intervention was crucial to saving the victim. A boat operator, Mr. Peter Okenye, who took part in the rescue, recalled: “By the time we reached him, he was already going under. IMO STATE BANS GRADUATION PARTIES FOR NURSERY & JSS3 CLASSES The administration of Gov. Hope Uzodinma in Imo State has banned End-of-Session and school graduation parties in nursery schools and JSS3 classes across the state. According to Imo State Commissioner for Education, Professor Bernard Ikegwuoha, only Primary 6 and SS3 students are allowed to have graduation ceremonies.  “Henceforth, graduation ceremonies and parties for Kindergarten, Nursery and junior secondary school 3 students are hereby abolished," Ikegwuoha wrote.  The government also banned the yearly purchase of schoolbooks by students, stating that all academic books must be usable by siblings for four years. “Proprietors are warned to desist from frequent change of textbooks every academic year, as this practice can be financially burdening for parents and undermine the quality of education," Ikegwuoha stated.  243 OFFICIALS GET PROMOTED IN NIMASA  The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has approved the promotion of 243 officials from one career level to the other. The agency board revealed that nine Deputy Directors to directors, 30 Assistant Directors to Deputy Directors, 35 Chiefs to Assistant Directors, and 169 other staff members were promoted from one grade level to the next. Director-General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, tasked the newly promoted officials to rededicate themselves to greater efficiency and productivity. "Our administration is committed to improved staff welfare," Mobereola said. "This promotion exercise is strictly merit-based, and we expect staff to reciprocate by rededicating themselves to higher productivity. We will continue to prioritize staff welfare, while counting on your commitment to the ideals of the Agency in helping Management actualise its mandate."
