OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERATION
PRESS RELEASE
FG ASSURES COMPETITION TRIBUNAL OF IMPROVED WELFARE
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, has assured the Chairman and Members of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (FCCPT) of the federal government’s commitment in improving the welfare of the organisation for effective service delivery.
The SGF gave the assurance when members of Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal led by its Chairman, Hajiya Saratu Mama Shafii, paid him a courtesy visit in his Office.
Having congratulated them for their well-deserved appointment, Boss Mustapha assured them that the Federal Government would ensure that they have a befitting welfare to enable them carry out their mandate effectively. In his words:
“I would assure you that these matters will be looked at. I think the one of accommodation, we should be able to expeditiously deal with that so that you can have a befitting place where you can have offices, and to have halls where you can sit and listen to petitions and complaints that will come before you, and the atmosphere should be a secured atmosphere, where you will be able to adjudicate and give decisions without fear or favour. I also believe that the issue vehicle is also important, because we cannot have Madam Chair board Keke NAPEP on her way to work or use a vehicle that is not serviceable at any given time. So these are basic
tools of work and not luxury, they are basic tools of work that
government has the responsibility of ensuring that these
facilities are readily available, because we expect much from
you. And if we do not create that enabling environment, it
will be very difficult for you to be able to execute on the
mandate that has been given to you”.
The SGF said the essence of setting up the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal was premised on the need to protect consumers against prohibitive practices by manufacturers and the providers of goods and services. And to this end, he charged them to put their qualifications and expertise to bear in the discharge of their responsibilities in the interest of Nigerians.
The Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection
Tribunal (FCCPT) Hajiya Saratu Mama Shafii thanked President
Muhammadu Buhari for the appointment and promised to give their best in discharging their duties in line with the Next Level Agenda.
She appealed to the SGF to use his good offices to assist the newly
established Tribunal in the area of accommodation, manpower and
mobility for smooth operation. She added that there is need for improved budgetary allocation to meet up its demands.
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (FCCPT) was inaugurated on 4 th March, 2021 by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo.
