 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, Others Administered With COVID-19 Vaccine Booster doses, Call For Increased Awareness On Vaccination.



The Traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, today, 14th December 2021 received COVID-19 vaccine booster doses, as part of measures to stem the spread of the virus among human population.


Okeichie Emmanuel Okoye, wife of the Traditional ruler, Lolo Dorathy and a septuagenarian, Ezinne Gloria Ukamaka Nworah, were among others that were vaccinated during the exercise, which took place at Igwe’s palace Enugwu-Ukwu, and was witnessed by ABS UNICEF Desk Officer, Mrs Franka Mmaduike.


Addressing his subjects and the entire Ndi-Anambra after receiving the dose, Igwe Ekpeh called for increased and sustained efforts at increasing awareness and dispelling misconceptions about COVID-19 vaccine, adding that the rate at which the new Omicron variant is spreading among human population, resulting in travel bans, has made it imperative for all to vaccinate against the pandemic.


He noted that similar vaccines in the past had helped contain the spread of other pandemics, and commended Governor Willie Obiano for his untiring efforts at ensuring the health of Ndi-Anambra and residents of the State, urging people to reciprocate Government gestures by going for the vaccine and observing COVID-19 protocols in the interest of the public health.


Contributing, wife of the Traditional ruler, Lady Dorathy and the septuagenarian, Ezinne Gloria  said they have had no health issues after receiving initial doses, calling on all to heed to government call for mass vaccination against COVID-19.


Director, Njikoka Local Government Health Authority, Dr. Ikechukwu Obi-udu, who led the medical team for the exercise, highlighted benefits of such vaccines, and commended Igwe Ekpeh, as well as the media for mobilising his subjects and Ndi-Anambra for the vaccination.
