 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Gov. Obiano Salutes Military Veterans, As He Launches 2022 Armed Forces Emblem Appeal Fund



Governor Willie Obiano said Anambra state will continue to show gratitude to both serving and retired military men in Nigeria for their service to the nation.


He made this known during the 2020 Armed Forces Emblem Appeal Fund launching in Awka.


According to governor Obiano represented by the Secretary to the state government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, the state will continue to show gratitude to men and women who fought gallantly to safeguard the territorial unity of the nation.


The governor revealed that Anambra state government had supported the Nigeria Legion, Anambra state command in various ways to help alleviate their challenges, as well as ensure the welfare of the widows of their fallen colleagues.


The Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Primus Odili while launching the emblem thanked the war veterans for their service to humanity and asked the serving officers to tap from the wealth of experience of the military veterans.


According to the new Head of Service of Anambra state, Barr. Theodora Igwegbe, the State Civil Service will continue to support the military to achieve maximum results.


The Chief Judge of Anambra state, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, represented by his honour, A.C Peters, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission, Barr. Chuks Ezewuzie, the Managing Director of Awka Capital Development Authority, Venerable Amechi Okwuosah all eulogized the Nigeria Legion for their service to the nation.


Officers from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Immigration, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, were among those that attended the event.
