Israel and Lebanon agree to extend US-brokered ceasefire by 45 days, State Department says Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend a U.S.-brokered ceasefire by 45 days, according to U.S. officials, in an effort to allow further progress in ongoing negotiations aimed at reducing hostilities along their shared border. A State Department spokesperson said the April 16 cessation of hostilities would be extended by an additional 45 days following what officials described as “highly productive” talks held in Washington on Thursday and Friday. Gunmen Invade School, Kill 2 Teachers

Suspected gunmen killed two teachers and injured the Vice Principal of BECO Comprehensive School Kwi, Riyom local government area of Plateau State.

Recall that the local government, along with Mangu and Barakin-ladi local government areas of the state, have been under attack by gunmen in the past three months, leading to several deaths and the destruction of farmlands and properties.

The Principal of the school, Mr Dantoro Gyang, who confirmed the attack to the Nigerian Tribune, said the staff of the school were on routine meetings at about 2:00 p.m on Monday when some herdsmen led their cows into the premises for grazing, adding that they were confronted by the security men on duty.

According to him, while the security men interrogated them on why they grazed into the school premises, the staff came out of the meeting to see what was happening.

He said, “While we are trying to engage them on the need to vacate the school premises, two of them suddenly brought out guns, pulled the triggers, and instantly killed two of my teachers, while the Vice Principal (Administration), Mr Dalyop Emmanuel Ibrahim, and one other person were shot in the abdomen.

“As I am talking to you now, one of those injured is presently receiving treatment at General Hospital Riyom, while the vice principal was taken to Jos University Teaching Hospital.”

Speaking with newsmen, the President of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), Barrister Solomon Dalyop, described it as another form of terrorist attack on the people of Plateau State, adding that until open grazing is banned, the herdsmen will continue to terrorize the people of the state and the middle belt as a whole.

When contacted, the Spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, said the command has not been briefed on the incident and promised to get back.
