 "Worth It" — Woman Pleads Guilty to Fatally Shooting 11-Month-Old Son to Keep Him From Father Madeline Veronique Daly, 36, pleaded guilty this week in Silver City, New Mexico, to first-degree murder in the December 23, 2025 killing of her 11-month-old son, Basil Stoner. Grant County deputies had tracked her to an RV off Highway 15 on a Wyoming kidnapping warrant after she took the baby during a custody dispute with his father, Jake Stoner. While officers waited for a warrant and tried to negotiate, Daly put a 9mm handgun to the boy’s face and fired. According to the criminal complaint, Daly told investigators her thought when she saw law enforcement approach was: “Jake can’t get Basil.” After her arrest she said it was “worth it” if Basil’s father and his family never got him.  Rivers State Govt takes over prosecution of murder trial of UNIPORT student


The Rivers State Government has taken over the prosecution of the murder trial of Damian Okoligwe, a 400L student in the Department of Petrochemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt.

Okoligwe was accused in 2023 of killing his girlfriend, Justina Otuene, a 300L Biochemistry student at the same university.

Following the arraignment of the suspect by the Rivers State Police Command, the Office of the Attorney General of Rivers State filed charges against Okoligwe in the State High Court, after receiving advice from the Department of Public Prosecution, DPP.

During Tuesday’s court proceedings, the defendant, Okoligwe, and his legal representative were not present.

The presiding judge, Justice C. A. Nsirim, adjourned the case to Tuesday, April 23, 2024, and directed that the suspect be brought to court to enter his plea on the specified date.
