 ASUU–ABSU SUSPENDS THREE-WEEK-OLD INDEFINITE STRIKE The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abia State University Branch, wishes to inform the University community, all stakeholders and the general public that, following the resolution of Congress held today, Friday, 28th August, 2026, the Branch has suspended its three-week-old comprehensive industrial action with immediate effect. The decision of Congress followed a careful assessment of developments since the commencement of the strike and, particularly, the concrete steps taken towards addressing some of the major issues that necessitated the industrial action. Foremost among these is the full implementation of the 2025 FGN–ASUU salary structure, including the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), which has now been reflected in the August 2026 salaries of academic staff of Abia State University.  NIGERIAN ARMY COMMITS TO PRESIDENT TINUBU’S FOOD SECURITY POLICY


The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s (NA) commitment to implementing President Bola Tinubu’s policy on food security. The COAS made this call at the opening of the Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches Limited (NAFARL) training workshop 2024, in Abuja on Tuesday,22 October 2024. The workshop, themed “Attaining Peace through Food Security: Nigeria Army Farms and Ranches Limited Perspective,” aims to rekindle the NA’s efforts to provide viable and sustainable agricultural programs through effective farming and ranching.


Represented by Maj Gen Zakari Abubakar, Chief of Transformation and Innovation (COTI) emphasized the NA’s dedication to supporting Mr President’s food security initiative. The COAS said the NA had made food security a priority following the president’s directive for the Armed Forces of Nigeria to use its available land for agricultural purposes. He commended NAFARL for its remarkable successes and achievements in its research and development efforts, especially in livestock breeding and refining.
