 ASUU–ABSU SUSPENDS THREE-WEEK-OLD INDEFINITE STRIKE The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abia State University Branch, wishes to inform the University community, all stakeholders and the general public that, following the resolution of Congress held today, Friday, 28th August, 2026, the Branch has suspended its three-week-old comprehensive industrial action with immediate effect. The decision of Congress followed a careful assessment of developments since the commencement of the strike and, particularly, the concrete steps taken towards addressing some of the major issues that necessitated the industrial action. Foremost among these is the full implementation of the 2025 FGN–ASUU salary structure, including the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), which has now been reflected in the August 2026 salaries of academic staff of Abia State University. A COMMUNITY IS DEMANDING ANSWERS AFTER POLICE IN KENTUCKY TAKE A MAN'S LIFE WHILE SERVING A WARRANT TO THE WRONG ADDRESS. (PHOTO).

 A community is demanding answers after police in Kentucky take a man's life while serving a warrant to the WRONG address. 


Neighbors of 61-year-old Doug Harless are in complete shock and disbelief after police took his life in a hail of gunfire on December 23rd. 


According to reports, London, Kentucky PD were serving a search warrant in regards to a "stolen weed eater" on Vanzant road in Laurel County. However police had executed the warrant two doors down from the actual address.


Police say they were forced to open fire after Doug pointed a gun at them. However a neighbor's surveillance camera showed them banging on the door until they forced entry. There is no evidence showing that Doug knew the police were getting ready to break into his home. Police fired approximately 5 rounds mere seconds after entry was made into Doug's home. 


Neighbors describe Doug as a quiet and humble person who was "a really good neighbor". Now community members are demanding justice for his senseless death due to police error.


London Mayor Randall Weddle said his office will closely follow the investigation that is now in the hands of Kentucky State Police. He stated his heart goes out to everyone affected by this incident. He ended his statement by saying he is limited on what he can say due to it being an open investigation. 


Our thoughts are with the family, friends and neighbors of Doug Harless as they deal with his untimely passing in such a controversial manner.


One neighbor reached out to share that "Doug always greeted everyone with a genuine smile".
