 The vest did the job - Donald Trump confirms agent injured in D.C. shooting scare Donald Trump has confirmed that a Secret Service agent was injured during a shooting scare at a major press event in Washington, D.C. Speaking after the incident, Trump said the officer was hit at close range but avoided serious harm thanks to protective gear.  “One officer was shot but saved by the fact that he was wearing a very good bulletproof vest,” he said, adding that the agent is now recovering and in good spirits. The situation unfolded during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where attendees were settling in for the evening when gunfire was heard. Witnesses described a sudden shift from calm to panic, with people quickly moving for cover under tables as security responded.  Illinois gubernatorial candidate loses son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren in helicopter crash

Illinois gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey announced that four members of his family died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday evening.

Bailey said in a social media post that his son, Zachary; daughter-in-law, Kelsey; and their two children, 12-year-old Vada Rose and 7-year-old Samuel, were killed. Their third child, 10-year-old Finn, was not on the helicopter and is safe.

“Darren and Cindy are heartbroken by this unimaginable loss,” the post said. “They are finding comfort in their faith, their family, and the prayers of so many who love and care for them. The Baileys deeply appreciate the kindness and support they have received and ask for privacy as they grieve and hold their loved ones close during this difficult time.”

The statement noted that the helicopter crash occurred in Montana. Bailey was the Republican nominee for Illinois governor in 2022, losing to JB Pritzker, and launched a second campaign for the office in September.
