Trump issues pardon to former Republican congressman Stephen Buyer after insider trading conviction    President Donald Trump has issued a full pardon to former Republican congressman Stephen Buyer, who served nearly two years in prison after being convicted of insider trading tied to post-congressional consulting work. Buyer was sentenced in 2023 to 22 months in prison for illegal stock trades made while working as a consultant and lobbyist. He was ordered to forfeit more than $350,000 in ill-gotten gains and pay a $10,000 fine. He was released from custody in 2025 after his conviction was upheld, with the Supreme Court declining to take up his appeal earlier this year. 2027: Deputy Speaker, Kalu Has Not Declared For Abia Governorship


The attention of the Office of the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, LL.D, CFR, has been drawn to a false and misleading news report circulating on social media, attributed to "Native Reporters", claiming the Deputy Speaker's intention to run for Governor of Abia State in 2027.


We categorically state that the report is baseless, unfounded, and lacks credibility. The Deputy Speaker has not made any declaration, either privately or publicly, to contest for the governorship of Abia State in 2027.


The Deputy Speaker is focused on his four-year mandate of representing  Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State and serving them and indeed, all Nigerians with dedication and integrity.


We urge "Native Reporters" to retract the false report and adhere to basic journalistic ethics, including truth, accuracy, and fairness if they are a responsible and credible news platform. 


We also caution against spreading misinformation and advise media practitioners to verify facts before publication.


The political family of the Deputy Speaker will announce his plans and intentions at the appropriate time.
