The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.  Los Angeles firefighters receive star on Hollywood Boulevard

The Los Angeles Fire Department has been honored with a star on Hollywood Boulevard, recognizing the department’s bravery and dedication during the deadly Palisades Fire in January. The initiative began with a school assignment by 14-year-old Eniola Taiwo, who suggested celebrating first responders alongside Hollywood celebrities.

“I know that the first responders aren’t exactly celebrities, contrary to all others on the Walk of Fame,” Taiwo wrote. “But I am confident that there won’t be much opposition to recognizing our modern-day heroes. This star for first responders will reach the hearts of many first responders and let them know that what they do is recognized and appreciated.” After sending her letter to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the department was officially honored on Friday, December 12, with the star placed adjacent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The ceremony was attended by Taiwo, her family, her teacher Jennifer Marganski, community leaders, and firefighters. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce praised Taiwo’s vision, noting that it highlighted the importance of gratitude and civic pride. The Los Angeles Fire Department expressed its appreciation, thanking Taiwo, the Chamber, the Hollywood Community Foundation, and the citizens of Los Angeles for their support.

This Award of Excellence marks only the ninth given by the Chamber, created to honor organizations and corporations that have positively impacted Hollywood and the entertainment industry. The Fire Department now shares the distinction with notable recipients, including the Los Angeles Times, Variety, the LA Dodgers, and the Los Angeles Police Department Fallen Officers.
