Former Prince Andrew has left his long-term residence near Windsor Castle ahead of schedule following the latest release of U.S. documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, which reignited scrutiny of his connection to the convicted sex offender. The 65-year-old, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, departed the Royal Lodge on Monday and is temporarily living at Wood Farm Cottage on the king’s Sandringham estate in eastern England while his permanent residence there undergoes renovations. His move had been announced in October after King Charles III stripped him of his royal titles, but he was originally expected to remain at Royal Lodge until spring.
The accelerated relocation coincides with a new police investigation into allegations that Epstein transported another woman to the U.K. for sexual encounters with Mountbatten-Windsor, reportedly in 2010 at Royal Lodge. These claims are separate from those made by Virginia Giuffre, who alleged she was trafficked to Britain to be with Andrew in 2001 and died by suicide last year. Mountbatten-Windsor has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and has not commented publicly on the new allegation. His name appears multiple times in the 3 million pages of documents recently released by the U.S. Department of Justice, including emails referencing alleged sexual encounters and proposals involving him. The files, however, do not confirm wrongdoing by many of those mentioned, reflecting Epstein’s broad network of contacts. Mountbatten-Windsor’s long-standing lease on Royal Lodge, which had extended through 2078, had been a point of tension with King Charles, who sought to move him to a smaller property on the Windsor estate. The shift to Sandringham places him on the king’s private property rather than Crown-managed land.
