 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision.  The vest did the job - Donald Trump confirms agent injured in D.C. shooting scare


Donald Trump has confirmed that a Secret Service agent was injured during a shooting scare at a major press event in Washington, D.C.


Speaking after the incident, Trump said the officer was hit at close range but avoided serious harm thanks to protective gear. 


“One officer was shot but saved by the fact that he was wearing a very good bulletproof vest,” he said, adding that the agent is now recovering and in good spirits.


The situation unfolded during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where attendees were settling in for the evening when gunfire was heard. Witnesses described a sudden shift from calm to panic, with people quickly moving for cover under tables as security responded.


Video from the scene shows Secret Service personnel acting fast, escorting key figures away from the area, including Trump and other officials present at the event. According to his account, the suspect approached a security checkpoint with multiple weapons before being stopped by agents on site.


“A man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons and he was taken down by some very brave members of the Secret Service,” Trump said, praising their quick response.


While details about the suspect and the full sequence of events are still being reviewed, Trump used the moment to highlight concerns about venue security. He pointed to ongoing plans for a more secure event space, describing the need for stronger protective measures going forward.
