 PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS MS. ADEDAYO BENJAMIN LANIYI AS DG/CEO OF THE MARYAM BABANGIDA NATIONAL CENTRE FOR WOMEN DEVELOPMENT President Bola Tinubu, has approved the appointment of Ms. Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi as the Director-General /Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD) and  members of the Governing Council  for an initial term of four (4) years. In a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume the appointment which takes effect from April 18, 2026, is in accordance with the provisions of Section 7 (1) and (3) of the National Centre for Women Development (Amendment) Act, 2023. ABSU Student Reports Assault by Police Officers at Uturu Road Checkpoint


A nursing student at Abia State University (ABSU) in Uturu has reported being assaulted by police officers during a vehicle stop at a checkpoint along Uturu Road on May 9, 2026. 


According to the student, identified on social media as Buddy Jnr, the incident occurred around 2:31 p.m. while he was traveling in a minibus. He stated that officers in camouflage, without visible name tags, stopped the vehicle and ordered passengers to alight. The officers questioned individuals about phone ownership and occupations before taking him, his brother, and another passenger aside.

The student alleged that the officers beat the three men, resulting in injuries including bleeding from the ear and a broken phone screen. He further claimed the officers made threats during the encounter. A 36-second video posted with the account shows officers questioning individuals at the roadside in an agitated manner.
