  Viola Davis Rejects Target’s Apology Over “Blackface” Halloween Costume Viola Davis has rejected Target’s apology after the retailer pulled a controversial kids’ Halloween costume that critics said evoked racist minstrel and blackface imagery. Target removed the $25 "Kids' Glows Under Blacklight Circus Clown" costume from its Hyde and EEK! Boutique line after backlash over the design’s exaggerated features, which many linked to Jim Crow-era minstrel and blackface tropes. The retailer took down the item and issued an apology, saying they “got this wrong” and acknowledging the deep hurt caused to Black customers and employees. Davis, however, turned down the apology.
