From Writing Lyrics in Class to Music Videos: Ayra Starr Reflects on Dream Zayn Malik Collaboration

Grammy-nominated Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has opened up about her incredible journey to global stardom, reflecting on a full-circle moment that once seemed like an impossible childhood dream: collaborating with British singer and former One Direction member, Zayn Malik.

The "Rush" hitmaker recently shared how working with Malik served as a powerful reminder of how far she has come. For Starr, the partnership was not just another high-profile industry link-up, but the realization of a fantasy she harbored long before she ever stepped into a professional recording studio.

From Classroom Doodles to Global Chart-Toppers

Reflecting on her school days, Ayra Starr revealed that she was once just an ordinary student obsessed with the British-Irish boy band One Direction. Her passion for their music often landed her in trouble with her teachers.

"I’m writing like the lyrics, One Direction lyrics on my notebook and getting in trouble for it and stuff like that," she recalled. "Going to school every day, it felt so far away. I'm telling you, it felt so far away."

Despite how distant her aspirations felt at the time, her transition from writing lyrics in class to shooting an official music video with Zayn Malik has redefined her perspective on what is achievable through hard work and persistence.

A Message of Perseverance for Fans

The singer described the experience of meeting and working with Malik in person as a surreal milestone in her fast-rising career. Beyond the glitz and glamour, Starr hopes her story serves as an inspiration to young dreamers across the globe.

"Your dreams might seem so far away, but it’s just here. And you just have to work towards that," she expressed. "Like, it’s things that felt so far away. And now, like, I did a music video with Zayn Malik and he was there in person."

As Ayra Starr continues to cement her status as one of Africa's leading musical exports, her collaboration with Zayn Malik stands as a testament to the power of manifestation, talent, and relentless dedication.
