LASG CONCLUDES 2026 CHILDREN'S SUMMER CULTURAL FIESTA WITH GRAND FINALE CELEBRATION
The Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture (LSCAC) has successfully concluded the 2026 Children’s Summer Cultural Fiesta, a week-long creative and cultural programme designed to immerse children in the richness of Lagos and Nigerian heritage while nurturing their creativity, confidence and artistic talents.
The event was held at the LSCAC Theatre Hall from Thursday, 13th August to Thursday, 20th August 2026; the Fiesta culminated in a vibrant and memorable Grand Finale. Themed “Our Culture, Our Identity,” the programme brought together children for an inspiring period of learning, cultural expression, and entertainment.
Throughout the week, participants engaged in practical training across diverse cultural disciplines, including arts and crafts, textiles, Yoruba language, dance, music, drama, and storytelling. These activities provided the children with opportunities to connect with their roots while discovering and developing their individual talents.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MTAC), Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, the Director/CEO of LSCAC, Mr. Idowu Johnson described the theme “Our Culture, Our Identity” as both timely and significant.
He emphasised that culture remains a vital part of who we are, noting that introducing children to their heritage is one of the most effective ways to preserve traditions for future generations.
Mrs. Oyekan-Ismaila commended the facilitators and organisers for creating a platform where children could learn, create, and express themselves through indigenous cultural activities. Beyond practical skills, she highlighted confidence, creativity, and deeper appreciation for cultural identity that the children gained.
In his welcome address, Mr. Johnson warmly received children, parents, guardians, distinguished guests, and participants. He stressed the importance of helping children understand their identity and heritage, noting that culture extends beyond clothing, music and festivals to encompass language, values, traditions and creativity - all of which shape belonging and identity.
He further reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that nurture creativity, develop skills, and create opportunities for young people within the cultural and creative industries. He encouraged children to take pride in their heritage, embrace their languages and traditions, and use creativity and innovation to elevate Lagos State’s rich culture.
The Grand Finale was a spectacle of talent and joy, as children showcased drama, dance, and other performances that reflected their learning during the Fiesta. Their presentations demonstrated growing confidence, creativity, and appreciation for the arts.
Parents and guardians expressed gratitude to the organisers, describing the initiative as impactful and invaluable. Many urged the Council to sustain and expand the programme to benefit more children in future.
Awards were presented to outstanding performers, underscoring the impact of the Fiesta and the importance of platforms that allow children to explore their heritage while developing creative potential. The event reinforced culture’s role as a powerful tool for education, identity formation, creativity, and youth development.
The 2026 Children’s Summer Cultural Fiesta concluded on a high note, leaving participants inspired, more knowledgeable, and deeply connected to their cultural roots.
