  Viola Davis Rejects Target’s Apology Over “Blackface” Halloween Costume Viola Davis has rejected Target’s apology after the retailer pulled a controversial kids’ Halloween costume that critics said evoked racist minstrel and blackface imagery. Target removed the $25 "Kids' Glows Under Blacklight Circus Clown" costume from its Hyde and EEK! Boutique line after backlash over the design’s exaggerated features, which many linked to Jim Crow-era minstrel and blackface tropes. The retailer took down the item and issued an apology, saying they “got this wrong” and acknowledging the deep hurt caused to Black customers and employees. Davis, however, turned down the apology.  Shawn Mendes confirms relationship with Bruna Marquezine as he celebrates actress’ 31st birthday


Shawn Mendes has made his relationship with Bruna Marquezine public by sharing a birthday tribute to the actress.


The 27-year-old singer marked Marquezine’s 31st birthday on Instagram with a message describing her as a positive presence in his life and saying he was grateful for her.


Mendes also shared photos and videos of Marquezine volunteering with children at Casa Amarela Providência, a cultural centre in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He later posted additional moments with the *Blue Beetle* actress on his Instagram Story.


The couple had kept their relationship relatively private after they were first linked during a trip to Brazil in December. They were later photographed together in Los Angeles while shopping.


Mendes has previously spoken about sharing personal experiences through his music. 


On his 2024 album Shawn, he addressed a pregnancy scare involving an unnamed partner in the song “Why Why Why,” explaining that he wanted his music to create a closer connection with listeners.


Mendes previously dated Camila Cabello and has also been linked to Sabrina Carpenter.
