 [ASSEN SAPS MEMBERS ASSIST WOMAN IN GIVING BIRTH AT POLICE STATION] Assen SAPS members assisted a female suspect who went into labour at the police station on Thursday, 8 October 2026, helping her deliver a healthy baby girl before she and the newborn were taken to a medical facility. According to reports, members were on duty at Assen SAPS under the command of Sergeant Chidi, when they received a telephone call regarding the arrest of a female suspect at Msholozi informal settlement in Kameeldrift. Constable Olivier and Constable Mokhutshoane responded to the call and arrested the suspect, who was reportedly in good health and had no visible injuries at the time of the arrest. She was subsequently taken to Assen SAPS. While at the police station, the suspect began experiencing labour pains and an ambulance was immediatly summond.          Flood Alert The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has warned residents of Anambra in flood plains and low lands near the River Niger and its tributaries to relocate. The South-East Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Fred Anusim, gave the warning on Saturday in Enugu. The Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) and Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) had earlier predicted torrential rains in September in 28 states of the country. The NIHSA early this week specifically noted that there had been disturbing growing level of water in the River Niger. “Some communities in the South-East have started feeling the impact of the increasing water and gradual flooding, especially those in Anambra State. “So, we are advising these communities, particularly those within natural flood-plains and low lands and those communities close to River Niger and its tributaries, to relocate to safe high-lands. “They should please evacuate while they can salvage some...

This was the directive by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the 18th state-wide briefing held at the State House in Marina on Saturday. The Governor also directed the primary and secondary schools across the State to resume on September 21, 2020, but said this date could be subjected to further review in the ongoing modelling of the State’s response to the pandemic.          Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu has commiserated with families, friends and associates of the victims of the unfortunate helicopter crash in Opebi, Lagos. In a condolence message signed on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile on Friday, Governor Sanwo-Olu promised that his Government would work with all the relevant Federal Government agencies to unravel the remote and immediate cause of the accident so as to prevent a re-occurrence in the future. The Governor advised residents of Opebi and its surrounding to go about their business peacefully saying, “there is nothing to fear as men and officers of the State emergency services were promptly deployed to the scene of the crash and they had brought everything under control.         More details have emerged concerning the helicopter crash that occurred in the residential part of Opebi in Lagos on Friday, August 28. Two persons died while the third victim is currently receiving treatment in a hospital. A statement released by Quorum Company, owners of the helicopter, says all three victims of the crash were crew members and were flying from Port-Harcourt to Lagos when it crashed between two buildings in Ikeja en-route to Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. The statement in part reads... “As soon as we received news of the accident, we promptly informed the aviation authorities, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Preliminary reports indicate that of the three souls on board – all crew, two of the crew members lost their lives whilst the third one is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
