 [ASSEN SAPS MEMBERS ASSIST WOMAN IN GIVING BIRTH AT POLICE STATION] Assen SAPS members assisted a female suspect who went into labour at the police station on Thursday, 8 October 2026, helping her deliver a healthy baby girl before she and the newborn were taken to a medical facility. According to reports, members were on duty at Assen SAPS under the command of Sergeant Chidi, when they received a telephone call regarding the arrest of a female suspect at Msholozi informal settlement in Kameeldrift. Constable Olivier and Constable Mokhutshoane responded to the call and arrested the suspect, who was reportedly in good health and had no visible injuries at the time of the arrest. She was subsequently taken to Assen SAPS. While at the police station, the suspect began experiencing labour pains and an ambulance was immediatly summond.  EFCC Recovers $104,950 for American-Based Businesswoman in Lagos The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, October 9, 2026, handed over $56,000 recovered in a suspected  procurement fraud case to an American-based businesswoman, Mrs Adeshola Oshilaja. The handover was performed at its Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, Ikoyi, Lagos, bringing the total amount recovered for her to $104,950. The latest recovery represents the outstanding balance of the funds, following the earlier payment of $48,950 directly to Oshilaja by the defendant, Babatunde Samuel Akinsanmi. The recovery and handover followed an investigation into a petition filed by Oshilaja over the alleged failure of her business associate and family friend, Akinsanmi, to account for funds provided for the procurement of 10 dump trucks from China.  Man Bags  Eight Years Imprisonment for N132m Money Laundering in Lagos  The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of Onatayo Pelumi for money laundering involving funds totalling about ₦132 million. Pelumi was convicted by Justice Osiagor of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on five counts bordering on the retention of proceeds of unlawful activities in bank accounts domiciled with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) and Zenith Bank. The charges alleged that the convict retained various sums of money in the accounts between January 2023 and June 2026, knowing that the funds formed part of the proceeds of unlawful activities. The court sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment, with an option of a ₦300,000 fine, on count One. On counts two, three, four and five, he was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment on each count, with an option of a ₦300,000 fine on each count. The terms of imprisonment are to run concur...

 Ex-Prince Andrew returns keys to Royal Lodge as King Charles loans his brother $2 million for repairs. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was ordered to leave grand Royal Lodge when he was stripped of his titles by his brother King Charles in October 2025. The former Prince Andrew has now handed back the keys to Royal Lodge in Windsor. The Crown Estate confirmed to PEOPLE on Oct. 9 that Andrew has formally surrendered the lease and the property is back in their hands.  Andrew, 66, moved out earlier this year after King Charles, 77, ordered him to leave. The Crown Estate said repairs for dilapidation have been paid, with the figure set by independent assessors. PEOPLE understands King Charles covered the $2.4 million cost from his private income as a loan to ensure the Crown Estate, which generates money for the nation, was reimbursed.  It is not known how Andrew plans to repay.  Nigerian beauty queen, Oma Osele has been crowned Miss Continental World 2026 at the international pageant held in Ayutthaya, Thailand She also reportedly won three additional honours: Queen of Africa, Best Physique and Best National Costume. The Queen of Africa title recognises her achievement as the leading African contestant in the competition, while the Best National Costume award celebrates the cultural presentation of a contestant’s national attire. Oma Osele is actually from the Eastern part of Nigeria. Congratulations to her.

 BAYELSA MOURNS AS PARAMOUNT RULER OF SAGANA, THEOPHILUS MOSES, DIES Bayelsa State has been thrown into mourning following the reported death of the Paramount Ruler of Sagana , His Royal Highness, Theophilus Moses. According to sources, the traditional ruler reportedly died at an undisclosed hospital following complications from an alleged botched liposuction surgery. His reported passing has cast a shadow of grief over the community, with many mourning the loss of a traditional leader. May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may God grant his family, the people of Sagana and the entire Bayelsa State the strength to bear this painful loss.

 Soldiers among 71 killed in South Sudan after violent clashes South Sudan’s government said soldiers were among 71 people killed in violent clashes on Friday in the central town of Rumbek. Witnesses told AFP a group of young people from outside Rumbek had attempted to take control of the town and even succeeded briefly. After police and military reinforcements arrived, the attackers withdrew, and two witnesses said the fighting had moved to outside the city limits. Head of state Salva Kiir had dissolved the government ahead of elections in December leaving an interim administration. "According to initial security reports, at least 71 people were reportedly killed," including four soldiers, the ministry added. The statement noted the deployment of additional security forces to Rumbek, saying that they now "have the situation under control." Four armed civilians were arrested, the statement revealed.
