 Okpoko Building Collapse: Ojukwu Condemns Illegal Structure, Orders Demolition ‎ ‎By Chukwuka Ugokwe ‎ ‎The Anambra State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Bar. Chijioke Ojukwu, has on Oct 8, described the collapse of a three-storey building under construction in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area, as unfortunate. ‎ ‎The incident, which occurred in the Anata Anaba area of the town, claimed the lives of a middle-aged woman and her 14-year-old daughter, amid allegations that warnings about the safety of the building had been ignored. ‎ ‎The victims, identified as Happiness Ugoagu and her daughter, Chikaima, were reportedly asleep in their bedroom when the building collapsed onto their residence. ‎ ‎Ojukwu, who visited the scene alongside officials of the ministry, alleged that substandard materials had been used in the construction.   The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Maiduguri Zonal Office, has arraigned Aisha Alkali Wakil popularly known as ‘Mama Boko Haram’ before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri, on a fresh three count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy and obtaining the sum of N41, 777,750.00 (Forty-One Million Seven Hundred and Seventy-Seven Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Naira) by false pretence. Mama Boko Haram was arraigned alongside Tahiru Saidu Daura, and Prince Lawal Shoyede, Programme Manager and Country Director respectively of Complete Care and Aid Foundation (Non-Governmental Organisation).   The trial of a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (retd) continued on January 18, 2021, before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of a Federal High Court, Ikoyi with a witness of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC further testifying against Amosu and two others on their complicity in the alleged diversion to personal use of about N21billion belonging to the Nigeria Air Force, NAF. Amosu, alongside Air Vice Marshall Jacobs Adigun, a former NAF Chief of Accounts and Budget, and Air Commodore Gbadebo Owodunni, a former NAF Director of Finance and Budget, are standing trial on an amended 13-count charge. The appointment was contained in a letter to Bishop Kukah dated 11th December, 2020, and signed by His Eminence, Peter Cardinal Turkson, the Prefect of the Dicastery. By this appointment, Bishop Kukah will join other members of the Dicastery drawn from different regions of the world to advise and promote the holy Father’s concerns on issues of justice and peace, human rights, torture, human trafficking, care of creation and other issues related to the promotion of human dignity and development.
