BAUCHI STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS RELEASE FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED OVER FARMER-HERDER CLASH IN NINGI LGA THAT CLAIMED ONE LIFE Following the unfortunate farmer-herder clash at Guda Village in Ningi Local Government Area, the Command wishes to inform the public that four suspects have now been arrested in connection with the incident. On 23rd September, 2026 at about 0740hrs, three farmers from Guda Village went to their farms on Guda Hill and found cattle belonging to a herder grazing on and destroying their crops. They chased the cattle to the herders' settlement where an argument ensued and degenerated into a fight. In the process, the three farmers sustained injuries. Sadly, in retaliation, some youths from Guda Village mobilized and set ablaze houses at the herders settlement.  FG probes 107 varsities over fake degrees The Federal Government has invited memoranda from the public as it begins the probe of private universities established in the last 15 years. The Federal Government initiated the probe following an investigative report by Daily Nigerian journalist, Umar Audu, uncovering certificate racketeering in neighbouring Benin Republic and Togo. Checks reveal that no fewer than 107 private universities were established in the last 15 years. The Inter-Ministerial Investigative Committee on Degree Certificate Milling set up by the Federal Government would be examining “whether or not private universities established in the last 15 years have in place prescribed facilities, appropriate management structure, adequate funding of programmes, requisite state, and nature of the staff – full-time, contract, adjunct, visiting and other types.” The committee, in an advertorial published in The PUNCH of Tuesday, noted that the probe was “without prejudice to the...

 Nigerian Govt postpones Student Loan Scheme launch indefinitely Nigerian Government has postponed indefinitely the launch of the Student Loan Scheme earlier set to take place on Thursday. This was made known by Akintunde Sawyer, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), in an interview with Arise News on Tuesday. Sawyer said that the launch had been postponed as there are some corrections that are being made around the launch itself. He, however, did not give a new date for the launch. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to commit to a specific date.  Atiku won’t dump PDP, says aide Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has no plan to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of 2027 polls, his media aide, Paul Ibe, said. He said in a statement that the report on an alleged plan to defect was an attempt to sow discord and confusion among the populace. Ibe described the report as an attempt to deflect attention from the pressing issues, including  insecurity, poverty, and  government policies.  Davido goofed, reduces Nigeria's diversity to three tribes Afrobeat singer Davido has made an inaccurate statement suggesting that Nigeria is composed of only three tribes: Yoruba, Igbo, and Benin. During a hosting session with renowned American content creator Kai Cenat, who is in Nigeria for a documentary, Davido made the statement while in Lagos yesterday. He stated, “We have three tribes in Nigeria. There’s Yoruba. My father is Yoruba. And in Nigeria, wherever your father is from, that’s where you are really from. So my father is Yoruba. My wife is from Igbo. And my mother is from Benin. I’m three tribes in one.” However, this claim contradicts official data from the National Bureau of Statistics, which indicates that Nigeria is home to 371 tribes. The largest ethnic groups are Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba.

 Truck falls on car, claims three lives in Ondo Three travellers lost their lives while one person sustained injuries yesterday after a truck fell onto a car along the busy Ondo-Ore highway. The truck fully loaded with beer, which belongs to the Nigerian Brewery, was said to have lost control at the Liyetu axis of Ondo town in the Ondo West Local Council Area of the state. The vehicle on which the truck fell, a Golf 111 car with the number plate BUR 852 TS, was conveying passengers along the route when the accident happened. Confirming the accident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, stated that the remains of the deceased persons had been deposited at the mortuary while the injured passenger was moved to the hospital for treatment.
