 A 13-year-old Florida boy lost his life inside of a tube slide at a playground, leaving behind a shocked and grief-stricken family. The heartbreaking discovery was made when a father took his two children to Shenandoah Park in Miami on September 25th to work out some energy.  What they discovered when trying to use the tube slide may keep these young children from ever playing in an enclosed slide again. 13-year-old Olvin Ballladares was inside of the slide ...and unresponsive.  According to reports, Olvin had gone to the park that morning instead of school. While at the park, Olvin had attempted to slide down the tube slide. While traveling down the slide, Olvin's shirt became caught on a screw and pulled tight around his neck, cutting off his supply to oxygen.  From the way that he was discovered, it appears Olvin had realized what was happening and tried to free himself but was unable.  PSC Promotes Over 8,000 Police Officers On Wednesday, the Police Service Commission (PSC) approved the promotion of 8,053 senior police officers. Earlier in the week, 11 Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs), and 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were elevated to the rank of Commissioners of Police (CPs). Additionally, 21 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were promoted to DCPs, and 57 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) moved up to Assistant Commissioners (ACPs). According to a statement by the PSC's spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, the total number of promotions included 1,348 Superintendents of Police (SPs) promoted to Chief Superintendents, 876 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) promoted to Superintendents, and 5,829 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) promoted to DSPs.  MNJTF troops repel terrorists attack on military base in Cameroon, neutralise 10 Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) operating under Sector 1 in Mora, have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram/ ISWAP terrorists on the military base at Darak in Cameroon.  The Chief Military Information Officer of the MNJTF, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, in a statement on Thursday, said the operations led to the elimination of 10 terrorists in the early hours of Wednesday. He said the attack began at dawn, with the terrorists launching assaults from multiple directions at the Darak military base. In a fierce gun battle, troops swiftly engaged the terrorists, eliminating 6 terrorists   and forcing the others to flee with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.  Friedkin Group Completes Takeover of Everton Football Club The US-based Friedkin Group has officially completed its takeover of Premier League club Everton, the club announced on Thursday. The acquisition was made through Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of the Friedkin Group. With this deal, Everton becomes the 10th Premier League club to be under majority American ownership, with the Friedkin Group purchasing a 98.8% stake in the Liverpool-based club.  Kogi CJ Grants Release to 27 Inmates with the Help of NGO The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Majebi, has facilitated the release of 27 inmates from six correctional facilities in the state. These individuals had been detained due to their inability to pay fines and compensation. The releases were made possible through the efforts of the Victory Idewele Foundation, which paid the outstanding fines and compensation. Justice Majebi visited the correctional centres from Monday to Wednesday to oversee the process. At Koton-Karfe Maximum Security Correctional Centre, two inmates were granted freedom. Mustapha Idris, who owed N50,000, was released, while Kehinde Amaka, who was sentenced to one year with a N300,000 fine, will remain in custody until January 15, 2025, to serve the rest of his sentence.  FCT High Court admits ex-Gov Yahaya Bello to N500m bail Justice Maryanne Anenih of the the Federal Capital Territory High Court has granted the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, bail in the sum of N500 million with three sureties in like sum. Justice Anenih had on December 10 refused the ex-governor’s bail application, saying it was filed prematurely. While delivering the initial ruling, she said that having been filed when the 1st defendant was neither in custody nor before the court, the instant application was incompetent. There was, however, room for the governor’s lawyers to file a fresh application for bail and apply for hearing date. The former governor is facing an alleged money laundering trial to the tune of N110bn, along with two others. He had pleaded not guilty to the 16-count charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).  Police Detain Principal Over Ibadan Children’s Carnival Stampede The Oyo State Police Command has detained Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, in connection with the tragic stampede that occurred at the school on Wednesday. Fasasi was invited by the police on Wednesday afternoon and has been in custody since then. The incident, which took place during a children’s carnival organized by Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, resulted in the deaths of at least 32 children. Sources close to Fasasi confirmed that he was invited to the police station around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday and was detained immediately upon arrival. He is currently being held at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the Iyaganku area of Ibadan. As of now, he has not been released.
