 [ASSEN SAPS MEMBERS ASSIST WOMAN IN GIVING BIRTH AT POLICE STATION] Assen SAPS members assisted a female suspect who went into labour at the police station on Thursday, 8 October 2026, helping her deliver a healthy baby girl before she and the newborn were taken to a medical facility. According to reports, members were on duty at Assen SAPS under the command of Sergeant Chidi, when they received a telephone call regarding the arrest of a female suspect at Msholozi informal settlement in Kameeldrift. Constable Olivier and Constable Mokhutshoane responded to the call and arrested the suspect, who was reportedly in good health and had no visible injuries at the time of the arrest. She was subsequently taken to Assen SAPS. While at the police station, the suspect began experiencing labour pains and an ambulance was immediatly summond.  Sudan war: Kordofan University reports heavy damage after RSF drone strike Sudan’s Kordofan University said that its campus in El-Obeid city sustained heavy damage after drones it said belonged to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck the facility. In a statement, the university’s media office said the attack targeted buildings within the central campus complex in El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, causing “extensive damage” to infrastructure. No immediate information was provided on casualties. The Emergency Lawyers Association, a local rights group, condemned the strike and held the RSF responsible, describing it as part of an escalating pattern of attacks on civilian sites. Targeting educational institutions constitutes “a violation of international humanitarian law,” the group said, stressing that assaults on universities undermine the right to education and threaten students’ futures.  Iconic 1980s singer Teena Marie died in tragic accident while taking a nap Teena Marie, affectionately known as the “Ivory Queen of Soul,” rose to prominence in the late 1970s after being discovered by Motown Records founder Berry Gordy. With her distinctive voice and collaborations with Rick James, she quickly became a defining figure in R&B and soul music.  Her debut album Wild and Peaceful in 1979 featured the hit I’m a Sucker for Your Love, which climbed into the U.S. R&B Top 10.  Mixed DNA Sample Complicates Search for Nancy Guthrie After Disappearance For a brief moment, it felt like a breakthrough. Investigators confirmed that DNA had been recovered inside the Arizona home of Nancy Guthrie, the 84 year old mother of Savannah Guthrie, who vanished in the early hours of Feb. 1. But that early optimism has since been tempered by a difficult reality. According to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, the genetic material collected from the home is a mixed sample, meaning it contains DNA from more than one person.  Speaking to NBC News on Feb. 20, Nanos explained that the complexity of the sample could significantly delay answers. Results, he said, may take weeks, months, or even a year. A mixed sample can be particularly challenging to interpret.
