Anambra Government Reaffirms Mega City Drive, Demolishes Scores of Illegal Structures By Ruth Orji The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing regeneration drive and restoration of sanity across the state through enforcement exercises and demolition of illegal structures statewide. The exercise was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, on July 8, in line with the Physical Planning Law of Anambra State. Stating that it is no longer business as usual, the commissioner urged residents to take every notice received from the ministry seriously and comply promptly with planning regulations henceforth. He, however, said several eviction notices had been served but were taken with a pinch of salt, adding that demolitions followed because structures defaced the environment or obstructed pedestrian walkways. According to sources,today tuesday an accident involving two vehicle killed three petroleum smugglers who were roasted alive.The incident happened when two vehicles being used to smuggle petroleum products collided before catching fire.The smugglers engaged in illegal transportation of petroleum products between the Idiroko Nigerian border and the neighbouring Republic of Benin.The victims,one of whom was simply identified as Fatai,his younger brother and a customer were all burnt alive following the collision.Eyewitnesses said it was while trying to avoid being arrested by security operatives,particularly the Nigerian Customs Service {NCS} patrol team,that the ford bus collided with a Nissan sunny car right infront of FARIWARD petrol filling station located at Temitope area around 2am today tuesday.
