NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT. Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination. A reinforcement team from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. According to a security source in Niger said today friday that Boko Haram militants operating out of Nigeria raided a village across the border in southern Niger and massacred at least 15 civilians.The overnight attack took place in the village of N 'Gourtoua in the Diffa region near the border with Nigeria,as residents celebrated Eid al-Adha,the Muslim festival of sacrifice.Sources further said ''There were at least 15 villagers killed,either shot or with their throats slit.Boko Haram also burned down a number of houses and looted shops''.
