 Senate Approves Death Penalty For Drug Traffickers The Senate has approved the death penalty for those convicted on the charge of drug trafficking in the country. The punishment prescribed in the extant NDLEA Act is a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The resolution of the Senate followed its consideration of a report of the Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters and Drugs and Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights & Legal Matters presented the report during plenary, Sen.Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno North). The bill, which passed its third reading, aims to update the list of dangerous drugs, strengthen the operations of the NDLEA, review penalties, and empower the establishment of laboratories. NIGER REPUBLIC,DECLARES A 15 DAYS STATE OF EMERGENCY BECAUSE OF BOKO HARAM.

                  A 15 day state of emergency was declared by the Niger government to allow authorities to beef up security,impose a curfew and restrict the movement of goods and people.The state of emergency was imposed on the southeastern region of Diffa yesterday wednesday where at least 40 people have been killed in recent weeks in attacks blamed on the Islamist militant group Boko Haram.The government instituted similar measures in February.Diffa has endured at least 57 attacks since February,which was shown through a statistics published by the United Nations on friday.At least 150,000 refugees seeking protection from Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria line in Niger's Diffa region.Am so looking forward to a day when all these insurgency will end.One more photo below.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Namtira Bwala has threatened to file a lawsuit against the school authorities if her abusers are not punished within 48 hours. In a letter drafted by her lawyers, Deji Adeyanju and Co, Namtira asked the school authorities to immediately investigate and pronounce the stiffest punishments in the student’s rule book on Ms.Maryam Hassan, Miss Faliya, and nine other students who bullied her.
