Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Today monday according to sources,residents of Elegbete and surrounding villages in Ikorodu,Lagos State have abandoned their homes following the invation of the area by gunmen,suspected to be Ijaw militants.Residents reported indiscriminate shootings by the invaders leading to the closure of schools,markets and shops.The militants were said to have struck between 9 am and 10 am today.Heavy gunshots filled the air as residents ran to safety,while schools,shops and businesses were hurriedly shut by their owners to avoid being shot.Anxious parents ran to the schools to take heir children home while the police and army have taken over the area to provide security.A police source disclosed that the attack was carried out by Ijaw boys,adding that the Commissioner of Police had deployed a large number of mobile policemen to the area to maintain peace.More photos below.
