  BENUE STATE POLICE COMMAND  PRESS RELEASE  18TH APRIL ,2025   SANKERA ATTACK: POLICE ACTION On  17/4/2025  at about 2100hrs, information was received that a large number of  suspected militia had invaded  Sankera axis of Benue state with intention to attack communities around Gbagir, Ukum Local Government Area.  Upon receipt of this report, the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Police command, CP. Steve H. Yabanet FCID, psc (+)  ordered tactical teams to move to the area and join forces with police officers on ground and other security agencies to forestall the attack.  Following this order, a team of officers moved to the area and engaged them.                  According to sources,the United State swore in Ambassador Step Schwartz to take up office in Somalia after half a century.58 years old Schwartz replaces the last ambassador James Bishop,who vacated the US embassy in Somalia when they came under threat more than two decades ago.Schwartz has served as the deputy chief of mission in Zambia.James K Bishop,he U.S ambassador who fled with the rest of the embassy staff a quarter-century ago said ''It will not be easy,Alshabaab remains a threat,obviously and the economic problem remain to be solved''.US pulled it diplomatic mission in Somalia in 1993 after militia men shot down a US military helicopter that claimed the lives of 18 soldiers.More photos below.
